Today’s progress
Today’s progress — Drove today. It was effortless. Not the slightest difficulty. Seeing progress of some kind nearly every day. Took Kyra to the doctor’s office, and that trip ended up taking almost three hours. I held up well. Met at my home with someone about church stuff earlier. Going to Kyra’s orchestra concert this evening.Continue reading “Today’s progress”
21 reasons you should ditch Facebook and switch to Google+
For well over a year I have been trying to get my friends — heck, anyone within earshot — to set up a Google+ account and give it an honest try. Every time I post on Facebook about how people need to switch, someone asks me to be specific about why. This post exists toContinue reading “21 reasons you should ditch Facebook and switch to Google+”
New milestones
Not three weeks ago I could barely walk halfway across my living room using a walker. I just finished walking .85 miles on my treadmill, which is in the basement, where I haven’t been in three weeks. Starting speed, 1 mph. Ending speed, 2 mph. It took thirty minutes. Still lack the balance to doContinue reading “New milestones”
Milestones II
*Showered standing up for the first time since getting out of the hospital *Made the bed this morning When I was a runner, I usually ran at around 7mph. In PT this morning they started me off on the treadmill at .7 mph. That .7 mph felt every bit as good as 7 mph everContinue reading “Milestones II”
Avoiding a Muffin-Top Life
The Muffin Top — Self Absorption I realized this morning that I have become self-absorbed. When I first got sick a few weeks ago, it was all about having “time for myself” and wanting to rest and recover fully and not being burdened by the expectations of others. Somewhere along the way, that became completeContinue reading “Avoiding a Muffin-Top Life”

Doctor: “You’re getting better fast”
Such was my MS doctor’s opinion today. I told him I’m not feeling better. He is confident that feeling better is coming soon. He said I should expect to need the walker for about a month and to use it even if I feel I don’t need it until PT gives permission to stop. HisContinue reading “Doctor: “You’re getting better fast””
Learning to Walk
Three brief videos are now on my YouTube channel that show how severely my walking had been affected immediately after I was hospitalized, and PT’s starting to teach me to walk again. Pretty amazing what they can teach, given that I couldn’t, and still can’t, feel my feet.
Milestones
*Walked for five minutes on a treadmill at PT today *Went upstairs today for the first time in three weeks My walking continues to improve at a dramatic pace. Tomorrow I will see my MS doctor for post-hospitalization follow-up.
